Green Supply Chains
Envirowise is a government funded programme offering UK businesses free advice and support on practical ways to increase profits, minimise waste and reduce environmental impact. Asda has recently signed up to the initiative designed to encourage food and drink companies and their suppliers to work together to reduce waste and save money - by using water, energy and raw materials more efficiently.
During the run-up to Christmas this is especially pertinent as every year in the UK, around 1 billion Christmas cards are thrown away. Last year Envirowise subscribers sent more than 54,500 e-cards, saving over a tonne of paper. Richard Bailey Associates will again be supporting the housing and homeless charity Shelter in 2007, and sending e-cards as we did last year.

It's interesting that Silla Maizey, former Head of Procurement at British Airways, is now their new Head of Corporate Responsibility having been a member of BA's internal corporate responsibility board for some time and following a similar path to Jenny Beament at Virgin.
As this area is sure to grow in 2008 we would be keen to know your thoughts and whether you have been invited to represent your organisation or to add your input.

The CIPS Supply Management Awards
The CIPS Supply Management Awards 2007 attracted a record 1100 people to the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane with an array of major players across various industries competing to be recognised for their efforts to attain purchasing excellence.
Going to such a lavish show was the last thing our trainee consultant Mahen Boyagoda expected in his first week with us, and we're pleased he came away with a valuable insight into the depth and significance that Procurement plays within the world of business.

Candidates - IR35
Introduced by the government in 1999, IR35 tax legislation was designed to eliminate the avoidance of tax and National Insurance contributions through the use of intermediaries such as service companies. The legislation only affects contractors who work through a limited or umbrella company (not those paid PAYE).
Remember that you bear responsibility for any underpaid tax and National Insurance so take advice if you are unsure whether this legislation applies to you.
For further information please go to the government's IR35 website
