Essence of Role - Key Accountabilities

  1. Impact on the Business
  2. Manage the supply chain for a category/subcategory by negotiating industry leading terms with Client suppliers.
  3. Input to the development and implementation of category strategies in line with overall SCM strategy
  4. Meet savings targets and continually push to exceed expectations while ensuring commercial perspective

 

Delivery of category cost insights, cost modeling and reference costs
Customers Suppliers and Third Parties

Manage relationships with category stakeholders

Manage Client suppliers and optimise supplier performance

Understanding and providing insight on supplier roadmap

Identify & evaluate potential future suppliers

Leadership and Teamwork

Manage relationship with Operations Teams to ensure that the strategy reflects their ability to fulfill their internal requirements and ensure compliance

Innovation and Change

Make recommendations on balancing competitive pricing, equipment diversity, process standardisation opportunities and longer term supplier relationships for the subcategory

Implement actions to optimally leverage Client category suppliers globally; ensure consistency of best practices and processes

Drive common standards across vendors to ensure comparability of supplier equipment within the subcategory in global price books and consistency in eAuctions

Implement eCommerce best practice solutions within category to realise commercial benefits

Investigate and drive performance improvements on specific opportunities identified within the sub-category

Knowledge and Experience

Strong analytical skills, with the ability to draw insights from a large volume of diverse data

Background in SCM, preferably in a global environment

Technical category knowledge, or the ability to develop this to enable effective engagement with stakeholders and suppliers

Communication, commercial and negotiation skills
Communication & Influence

Participate in negotiations with Client suppliers
Communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
Provide support in influencing internal customers to standardise and adapt Category Strategies and global suppliers.

FINANCIAL Limits/Mandates Etc.
NON FINANCIAL

Spend: direct accountability of up to 20m+ but indirect influence on 200m+ global category spend
Savings target: to be defined in objectives
Key Relationships:
Account management teams of global suppliers and prospects
Heads of category & teams
Operations purchasing teams
Stakeholders in Finance and HR
Line management: Manage own workload and inputs from others

Project/sub category Implementation plan and execution
Saving plan progress update
Supplier performance improvement plan
Provide analytical support to wide variety of SCM activities across all Operations within bounds of specific area of focus.

Educated to degree level or equivalent professional experience,
Proven desire for personal and career development strongly encouraged
Business acumen: knows the competition, the market place, knowledgeable in practices and trends.
